Staying safe while you wait

Get as far left as the vehicle will still carry you and switch the hazards on. If you can leave the car safely, get out on the passenger side and stand behind the barrier, away from the front of the vehicle.

If you cannot get out safely, keep your belt on and stay put with the hazards running. Either way, stay on the line with us — we keep talking while the truck is moving.

Why a flatbed matters on a motorway

A motorway is the worst place to fiddle with a vehicle. A flatbed means one controlled load and one departure, rather than a rolling tow being set up in live traffic.

It also does not care whether your vehicle runs. A seized engine, a locked gearbox or a flat tyre still goes up the bed on the winch, on skates if the wheels will not turn.
